CHENEY, Wash. – Last week the Sacramento State Hornets were 0-8 in Big Sky Conference play and it seemed like all hopes of a playoff berth were gone.
With three wins in a row, the latest being a 75-71 win at Eastern Washington Saturday night, the Hornets (8-14, 3-8) now sit only two games out of the tournament.
Joe Eberhard (21) and John Dickson (20) combined for 41 points to lead Sacramento State, who never trailed against the Eagles (11-13, 5-6).The Hornets opened up a 19-point lead at the half shooting 50 percent from both the field (14-28) and beyond the arc (6-12).
Saturday’s game marked not only the third-straight win for Sacramento State – their longest winning streak of the season – but also was the third consecutive game in which the Hornets snapped a losing streak of some form.
This time it was a 15-game losing streak at Eastern Washington. Sacramento State had not beaten the Eagles in Cheney since Jan. 19, 1995.
